Presented with 5 different materials that make up a waste material from among others industrial production, I chose feathers.

In the EU alone, feathers as a waste material that amount to 3.1 million tonnes each year.
Throughout my process, I tested various binders, such as agar agar, bone meal, but after several trials, I settled on cornmeal based bioplastics.
The best results with my bioplastic / feather blend I achieved when the material was rolled millimeters thin.
The material proved in the combination between the structure of the feathers and the flexibility of the bio plastic, to have good properties both for shaping and flexibility e.g. folding.
Inspired by the iconic Le Klint lamps, I tested folding  the material.
Based on the folding, I outlined examples of how the lamps are produced.
Through the process, I also tried other product options for the material.
The three images above are samples of different binders and varying amount of feathers.
To conclude this exciting subject, we exhibited our samples.
